During our annual fundraising, I received an email and it is something that we didn't expect because there was a priceless gift that was offered that we never thought that it would come so soon.
It was an offer of 500 rupees (about 8 dollars) for the Hope House. It is offered by none other than one of our own 16 years old girl and she is not any child but a child with special needs.
She didn't want to continue with her regular formal academics in school but wanted to become a dress designer. After completing the course in a local state polytechnic school, we put her in a vocational training where she learns to sew but also earns a little. She has a bank account which she operates on her own. To give her the confidence of managing money, we encouraged her to pay for her own little expenses. She has been saving little by little. Her goal is to buy herself a small makeup set and a mobile phone by New Year.
We accepted this gift with lot of celebration to help her to understand that it is priceless gift. We also accepted the gift with fanfare not because we needed funds but because we want to convey to her that her gift is priceless and she got the Hope House teachings right - never to forget your roots, your past and those that needs your help.
Thank You Sandhya, you touched all our hearts. Never underestimate yourself and keep on dreaming.
