Hope
House girls attend a Government Higher Secondary School for girls in Katpadi. In India, if a child is studying in a Government
school - where the standard of education is much to be desired for, means a
child cannot afford private school education.
At the Hope House, apart from academic excellence, they learn to grow up
as better citizens to the society that they live in.
Today,
H. Priya – one of our children at the Hope House, encountered a situation where
she displayed true spirit of the Hope House.
A teacher asked H. Priya’s class teacher to suggest a name of a studious
student and he has a gift that his children from Kuwait sent it. Class teacher suggested H. Priya’s name. Teacher promptly brought the gift (an
expensive watch) and gave it to H. Priya.
H.
Priya politely refused and said that she already has one. Teacher insisted that he meant the gift to be
given to a studious student. All the teachers
also encouraged H. Priya to accept it so she reluctantly took it.
Priya
noticed another studious student of her class not having a watch so she gave the
watch to her and told her the entire story behind it. Other student was so grateful for Priya’s
generous gesture and accepted it.
Noticing
the reluctance in accepting the gift, teacher called Priya again to inquire if
she still had the watch or gave it to anyone.
Priya promptly told him about the true beneficiary. Teacher couldn’t believe his ears so he
thanked her for the true heart that she has.
He inquired about where she learnt these qualities and she proudly told
him ‘HOPE HOUSE’.
Staff thoughts: H. Priya (featured on the right side of this blogpost) is a young lady
of very few words. She loves life like
any other child but never ignores the one who are less fortunate than herself. She leads by example which is rubbing off
on other girls as well. She is gunning
for a district rank in her 10th grade exam which would be taken by
couple of hundred thousand students.
We the staff couldn't be more proud of her.
